When searching through this Instagram recently I came across this drink created by Darnell Holguin of Las’ Lap. You can tell that his inspiration came from the Morir soñando, which when translated means, ‘to die dreaming. It is a popular beverage from the Dominican Republic and has made its way to other Caribbean and Latin American countries. It is usually made with orange juice, evaporated milk, and sugar.
It Was All A Dream!
1 1/2 oz. Bacardi Ocho (I used Afrohead Rum)
2 oz. Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice
1 1/2 oz. Passionfruit Milk*
1/4 oz. Averna Amaro
1/4 oz. St. Elizabeth Allspice Dram
There were no directions for the milk in his Instagram Video, so I created my own. Mix 1 and 1/2 cups of sugar with 1 cup of passionfruit puree (I use Goya Frozen Passionfruit Pulp) Once the sugar is combined add 1 cup of evaporated milk.
Combine all ingredients in a mixing tin. Add ice, shake, and strain over crushed ice. Garnish with fresh mint and an orange slice.
