La Quintinye is made with a wide variety of plants and spices. Depending on the variety it ranges from 18 in the blanc to 28 in the rouge. Each offering blends a selection of wines, including white wine and Pineau des Charentes, a fortified wine, blended of slightly fermented grape juice and Cognac).
La Quintinye Vermouth Royal Extra Dry
On the nose there are strong aromas of both dried and fresh herbs including rosemary and sage.in the background there is the faint trace of citrus peels and touch of honeyed sweetness. Upon tasting you are greeted with notes of fresh green herbs and citrus. This is complemented by a drying wood or bark note flavor.
La Quintinye Vermouth Royal Blanc
On the nose there are bright notes of sweet citrus and fresh herbs. Upon tasting there are notes of candied citrus, particularly orange and grapefruit backed up by warm sweet baking spaces and a touch of herbasciousness. It is sweet without being cloying and is great drunk on its own over ice with an orange and lemon twist.
La Quintinye Vermouth Rouge
On the nose its is aromatic with big bold aromas of citrus, red fruits, complemented by a touch of spice and bitterness. Upon tasting it is rich and sweet with plums, red grapes, prunes, and candied citrus. Lingering in the background like thieves in the night are the faint traces of bitt dark chocolate and warm vanilla bean.
This first drink is an original creation inspired by the classic negroni.
1 1/2 oz Blanc Vermouth
1 oz Dry White Rum
1/2 oz Yellow Chartreuse
2 Dashes of Volstead 1947 Bitters (Can substitute a high quality orange bitters)
2 Drops of Saline Solution
Directions: Stir all ingredients together and strain into a rocks glass with a large ice cube. Garnish and serve with a lemon twist.
Try the rouge in a classic Martinez cocktail and lastly try the dry vermouth in a Brooklyn cocktail
The Brooklyn Cocktail
2 ozs Rye Whiskey
1 oz Dry Vermouth
1/4 oz Maraschino Liqueur
1/4 ounce Amer Picon, or a few dashes of Angostura or orange bitters
Directions: Combine ingredients with ice and stir until chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnsih with brandied cherries.
