7 Daiquiri’s in 7 Days

Originally the daiquiri was a simple and unpretentious drink. Over the centuries it has been adulterated almost more than any other mixed drink. There is no need for the sweet and sour, artificially flavored syrups, and blenders to make a daiquiri.

In its purest form the Daiquiri is a tribute to rum. A simple, elegant, and refreshing drink, consisting of 3 ingredients: Rum, lime juice, and sugar. Anyone can make one with even the most basic of setups. Its beauty is in its simplicity.

The question of who invented the daiquiri will likely remain one of life’s mysteries. As far back as the late 1700’s the British Navy started issuing sailors a mixture of rum, sugar, and lime. The daiquiri as we currently know it is said to have originated in Cuba, with many laying claim to being the drinks inventor, including Cuban bartenders and American engineers. While the drinks origins remain clouded its effect on the drinking world is clear.

The daiquiri is a timeless classic for a reason. So with Sept 22nd being the last official day of summer what better way to close out the summer than with a round of daiquiris. Over the following 7 days we will look at 7 different variations from the classics to some excellent modern variations. So grab some rum, limes, sugar and prepare for a delicious and boozy journey.
